President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Tokyo, Japan, for the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
The summit, which runs from August 20 to 22 at the Pacifico Yokohama, will gather African leaders, development partners, and global stakeholders to chart new strategies for Africa’s economic growth.
Tinubu’s flight touched down at Haneda International Airport at 12:50 a.m. local time. He was received by Japan’s special envoy for TICAD, Ambassador Hideo Matsubara; Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; and senior embassy officials.
TICAD, first convened in 1993, is a triennial forum spearheaded by Japan and co-hosted with the United Nations, UNDP, the African Union Commission, and the World Bank. It alternates between Africa and Japan, with Tunisia hosting the last edition in 2022.
This year’s conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa”, will focus on attracting private investment, fostering innovation, strengthening institutions, and promoting resilience, peace, and human security across the continent.
During the summit, President Tinubu will hold bilateral meetings with world leaders and engage leading Japanese business executives with major investments in Nigeria.
