Nigerian Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has been accepted as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organisation behind the prestigious Grammy Awards.
With this milestone, Davido joins a global community of music professionals who will help decide nominees and winners for the 2026 Grammy Awards.
The Recording Academy confirmed his inclusion in a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, featuring Davido alongside other newly-inducted members. “Creating a song or an album takes heart, time, and dedication,” the Academy wrote, underscoring why members’ participation matters in shaping the awards.
Reacting, Davido described his new role as a “game-changer” for his career and for Afrobeats.
“Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the Grammy Award process. It is a game-changer. I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say in what is considered and voted on in each season. I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting,” he said.
Davido’s membership comes as part of the Academy’s ongoing effort to broaden and diversify its ranks, with growing representation from African artists and other international acts.
The “Feel” crooner, who earned three Grammy nominations in 2024, will now play a direct role in the Academy’s nomination and final-ballot processes leading up to the 2026 ceremony.
