It’s been a week since Moyosore Adebanjo emerged as the duly elected chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area. Just a few days ago, he officially received his Certificate of Return from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
Since his victories, first at the party primaries months ago, and then at the main election last week, many onlookers who had previously paid little attention to local politics have been asking one question: how did Moyo manage to pull it off?
Anyone active in politics will tell you that the journey is filled with highs and lows. As someone who has observed the political scene for two decades and reported on it professionally for the past 11 years across multiple newspapers, I can confidently say that Moyo’s success is rooted in sheer persistence. And yes, while “not giving up” sounds simple, it requires immense sacrifice of both time and resources. It also means engaging people from all walks of life, even those outside your usual circle.
For Moyo, humility is second nature. I know him. He embodies the qualities of a servant leader rather than a ruler. And members of the ruling party recognised this fact about him and decided to endorse him as candidate for the election. An opinion poll carried out by our reporters clearly showed that Moyo was head and shoulders above his fellow contestants.
A long-time and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Moyo has not only remained steadfast in his support despite some disappointments in the past, but has also played a significant role in advancing the party’s fortunes.
Regarded by many as both a bridge-builder and a grassroots mobilizer, Adebanjo carries a robust political portfolio. Notably, during the 2019 general elections, he played a key role in mobilizing over 8,000 polling unit champions under the ACTNOW project, contributing meaningfully to the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Lagos State.
His commitment to development is equally commendable. Adebanjo spearheaded the empowerment of more than 4,500 petty traders through the Federal Government’s TraderMoni initiative under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation (ICG, Onigbongbo Chapter). Additionally, he has overseen several empowerment initiatives, including the disbursement of soft loans to 1,300 traders via the Bank of Industry (BOI) and capacity-building workshops that have positively impacted over 200 youths and women across Lagos.
As a strategic, creative, and results-oriented leader, Adebanjo brings over five years of hands-on experience in project and programme management. He blends policy insight with grassroots action. His campaign journey, marked by resilience through political storms, has only grown stronger. Today, the APC leadership in Onigbongbo stands more united than ever ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
