A magistrate court in Ikorodu, Lagos, has ordered a DNA test to determine the paternity of Liam Aloba, the son of the late singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances after receiving an injection administered by auxiliary nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe. He was buried the following day, but amid public outcry and calls for justice, his body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.
In May 2024, the pathologist handling the autopsy said the cause of death could not be determined due to the body’s decomposition.
Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, has since demanded a DNA test, insisting that his son would not be reburied until Liam’s paternity was clarified. In his application to the court, he argued that uncertainty about the child’s paternity made it necessary to establish the truth for the sake of his welfare and maintenance.
Ruling on the application, Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga on Tuesday ordered that two DNA tests be conducted — one in Nigeria and another in a recognised and accredited hospital abroad.
“The court hereby orders that two DNA tests be conducted, one within Nigeria and another in a recognised and accredited hospital outside Nigeria,” the magistrate ruled. “Both parties or their representatives shall be present when the samples are taken.”
Sonuga further directed that the tests be carried out in government-approved facilities, with tissue or hair samples possibly taken from Mohbad’s remains, currently preserved at the Military Hospital in Yaba, Lagos.
The case was adjourned until November 11, 2025.
