ARISE News Channel has announced the death of one of its anchors, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, in the early hours of Monday, September 29.
Maduagwu, 29, popularly known as Sommie, was a news anchor, reporter, and producer who had become a familiar face to viewers across Nigeria. She was also a lawyer by training.
In a statement on Monday, ARISE News described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE family” and “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with viewers.”
“We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits,” the channel said, adding that condolences go to her family, friends, and colleagues.
Tributes have since poured in from journalists, civil society, and members of the public, many of whom have demanded justice for her killing.
