Four female officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State have died within two months of their election and inauguration into office.
The deceased officials are:
Basirat Mayabikan, councillor for Ward F in Shomolu LGA
Oluremi Ajose, vice-chairman of Badagry West LCDA
Zainab Shotayo, councillor for Ward C3 in Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA
Oluwakemi Rufai, councillor representing Ward C1 in Ibeju-Lekki LG
Their deaths came in quick succession, sparking concerns across political circles.
Rufai was the first to die on August 13, barely 17 days after her swearing-in. Shotayo followed on August 18. Ajose passed away on September 20, while Mayabikan died a day later on September 21 — just 56 days after assuming office.
The APC had won all 20 local government chairmanship seats and 37 local council development area (LCDA) positions during the July 11 polls, officially declared by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission on July 12.
