President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to endure the current economic hardship, likening his reforms to “bitter medicine” that will ultimately cure the nation’s woes.
Speaking at an interactive session with Nigerians in Brazil during his state visit, Tinubu acknowledged the pain caused by his administration’s policies but maintained that the sacrifices were necessary for sustainable recovery.
“Nations that thrive must sometimes endure tough adjustments,” the President said, while appealing for patience and resilience. According to him, the end goal is a stronger economy delivering food security, innovation and prosperity for all.
He also praised the Nigerian Diaspora community as “ambassadors” whose knowledge and resources are crucial for nation-building. Tinubu urged them to remain active contributors to Nigeria’s progress.
On the cultural front, the President threw his weight behind Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s upcoming voyage — a project rooted in a cultural initiative Tinubu started as Lagos State governor — stressing the importance of art and heritage in fostering unity.
His Brazil visit also saw the launch of Air Peace’s direct Lagos–São Paulo flight, which carried members of Nigeria’s delegation and business leaders. The Presidency described the new route as proof that Nigerian airlines can compete globally and as a tangible outcome of Nigeria-Brazil cooperation.
For Tinubu, the bitter taste of reform, he insists, will eventually give way to the sweetness of recovery.
