The Oyo State Government has announced Friday, September 26, 2025, as the coronation date for the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, who will ascend the throne as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Governor Seyi Makinde approved Ladoja’s nomination, paving the way for his enthronement at a grand ceremony scheduled to hold at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
A government delegation on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the former governor at his Bodija residence to finalise preparations with the Olubadan-in-Council. Confirming the development, Ladoja’s media aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, said the installation was fully set for September 26.
Ladoja had earlier met with the kingmakers in a closed-door session at his Ondo Street residence in Old Bodija, Ibadan North Local Government, in one of the key traditional steps following the passing of the immediate past Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has congratulated the Olubadan-designate, describing his elevation as a “momentous blend of royalty, experience, and statesmanship.”
In a statement, Ogundoyin praised Governor Makinde for swiftly approving the nomination and for safeguarding Ibadan’s respected chieftaincy tradition. He also lauded the succession system of the Olubadan stool, calling it one of the most peaceful and credible royal transition frameworks in Nigeria.
The speaker further highlighted Oba Ladoja’s distinguished record as a former governor, senator, politician, and elder statesman, expressing confidence that Ibadanland would enjoy a new era of peace, wisdom, and development under his reign.
