The Executive Chairman of Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, has called for deeper collaboration between the council and the Nigerian Army to strengthen civic responsibility and enhance security in the area.
Adebanjo made the call on Tuesday when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Brigadier General O.M. Oyekola, Commander of the 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army.
The delegation included the Vice Chairman, Hon. Shamsideen Oloyede Akerele; Leader of the House, Hon. Francis Nkwo; Councillor representing Ward A, Hon. Lekan Ige; his Chief of Staff; Council Manager; Council Treasurer; Deputy Chief of Staff; the CVR Committee Chairman; and the APC Ward A Chairman.
Speaking during the visit, Adebanjo described Brigadier General Oyekola as a critical stakeholder in the development of Onigbongbo LCDA, noting that this was the first time in the council’s history that such a strategic working relationship was being forged.
He commended the Commander and his officers for their role in maintaining security within the council, saying the presence of the Brigade has given residents a sense of safety and boosted investor confidence.
Adebanjo also announced plans to establish a Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centre within the 9 Brigade cantonment, which would make pre-registration, transfers, and data correction easier for residents. He emphasized that the initiative was not politically motivated but a civic responsibility.
The council boss further revealed plans to support traders at the Arena Market with initiatives to strengthen their businesses and welfare.
In his response, Brigadier General Oyekola appreciated the visit and commended Adebanjo for the initiative, stressing that the Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and property. He pledged the Brigade’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the council for mutual benefit.
