Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 each promised by President Bola Tinubu following their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) victory in Morocco.
Speaking on the forthcoming episode of With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade expressed frustration over the delay, saying repeated assurances from relevant authorities had not translated into payment.
“We have not received our money oo. Please, they have not paid. All the promises you heard back and forth, we have not received anything,” she said.
Ajibade said the players were informed that the funds had already been allocated, but nothing had reached them. She also noted that match bonuses and other allowances remain unpaid, stressing that the prolonged delay is demoralising for the team.
In July 2024, following the Falcons’ historic 10th WAFCON triumph, Tinubu announced a $100,000 reward for each player, along with other bonuses.
Ajibade also reflected on her difficult journey in football, revealing that she played for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League for 10 years without receiving a salary.
