Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to the President, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for failing to improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Political Paradigm programme on Tuesday, Baba-Ahmed stated that the Tinubu administration has not lived up to expectations, particularly in delivering better governance.
“Clearly, the Tinubu administration has failed to meet the expectations that it would significantly improve the quality of governance,” said Baba-Ahmed, who also previously served as the spokesperson for the Northern Elders Forum (NEF). He recently stepped down from his advisory role in the office of the Vice President.
Baba-Ahmed argued that the government’s performance should be measured not just by international ratings or World Bank statistics, but by the actual conditions Nigerians face in their daily lives.
“They claim to be doing well based on global indices and ratings, but those are not the only ways to assess a government’s performance. The true test lies in how citizens live. And by that measure, the Tinubu administration has fallen short of its promise to deliver better governance than President Buhari’s,” he said.
He urged the president to tackle key issues such as corruption, insecurity, and poverty, and to prioritize investment in infrastructure and social development.
Baba-Ahmed also highlighted the negative effects of the petrol subsidy removal, saying it has worsened living conditions for the average Nigerian.
Additionally, he called on the president to ensure greater accountability in the use of federal allocations, especially by governors from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“There is so much waste, abuse of resources, and corruption going on,” he said, adding that Tinubu should use his presidential authority to promote transparency and improve governance across all levels of government.
