A two-time presidential aspirant and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chife Dele Momodu has stated that only a united coalition of political parties can successfully challenge and unseat President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Speaking on the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State’s monthly programme, Guest of the Month, in Ibadan, Momodu remarked that his commitment to the PDP has waned, saying, “My soul has left the PDP; only my body remains.”
He emphasized that while a united PDP has the potential to reclaim power, internal divisions and external manipulations pose significant obstacles. “The APC fears the PDP because it remains the only viable opposition party,” he said, adding that the ruling party is actively working to fragment the PDP to weaken its chances.
Momodu warned that a fractured PDP cannot overcome the APC in 2027, noting that some PDP members are allegedly being used to destabilize the party from within. Nonetheless, he praised the PDP’s adherence to due process in handling disciplinary issues, stressing that legal procedures guide suspensions and expulsions.
Highlighting the need for broader cooperation, Momodu asserted that unseating Tinubu would require a strong and united coalition. He also pointed out that any serious challenger to the president must come from a different region to effectively counterbalance regional dynamics in the country.
