Nigerian musician and social media personality Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, has addressed the controversial statement he made during a recent live video in which he claimed to have been with an underage girl.
Clarifying the situation, Akpi stated that the comment was made purely for publicity, aimed at promoting his new single titled Village Girl.
“I’m an artist. We need controversy to survive. Nobody books you without it,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Akpi has courted controversy. Last year, he made headlines after making provocative remarks about fellow artist Burna Boy, which led to his unlawful arrest. The support he received during that incident may have emboldened him to continue pushing boundaries, but this time, many believe he went too far.
