The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has made disturbing discoveries during its ongoing enforcement operation at the Idumota open drug market in Lagos.
Among the findings were unregistered narcotics, counterfeit GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) medicines, and vaccines stored in unsanitary conditions, including toilets.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, NAFDAC reported:
“During the ongoing enforcement operation at the Idumota open drug market, officials have uncovered more alarming products, including unregistered narcotics, counterfeit GSK medicines, and vaccines stored in toilets.”
Additionally, during a raid on Tuesday, authorities seized expired USAID-donated condoms that had been repackaged and sold under the name “Kiss Condom.”
The agency also confiscated banned drugs such as Analgin, improperly stored vaccines, Oxytocin for maternal health, and other donated medical products.
NAFDAC has reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on counterfeit and substandard medicines, highlighting the serious health risks posed by these illegal products. The enforcement operation remains ongoing as officials work to dismantle illicit drug networks and enforce regulatory compliance.
