Speed Darlington's horrific children's day message

Speed Darlington, also known as Akpi, recently went live on Instagram to say that he defiled a 15-yeard –old girl while speaking in his native language, Igbo.

At this point, it’s unclear whether he actually did what he’s being accused of or if this is just another attempt to chase clout in today’s social media-driven world. Either way, the incident is disturbing and unacceptable and he should be arrested and interrogated. Only God know how many minors he must have done that to.

But how did someone like Speed Darlington become so famous in the first place? In fact, how do people like him gain fame at all? It’s because our society has side-lined intellectualism in favour of superficiality. Major corporations and media platforms continue to promote triviality over substance. No matter how many foolish things he has said in the past I am sure he must have said one thing that makes sense. But finding out that it is the stupid things that make him popular, he continues. This is the monster we have made. This is our society today.

Beyond the usual wave of outrage that comes with scandals like this, what are we doing to stop them from happening again? We need to hold ourselves as a society accountable. We consistently fail to uplift the right voices. Many of the same people criticizing Speed Darlington now were quick to defend him when he spread falsehoods about Burna Boy.

When will we finally take responsibility and begin to clean up our society?.
