Just three minutes later, Baris Yilmaz added a second, giving the Istanbul giants a comfortable lead heading into halftime.
In a sentimental moment late in the match, long-serving goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, set to depart the club after 14 years, was handed the opportunity to score from the penalty spot. The Uruguayan calmly converted in the 89th minute to seal the emphatic win.
The result took Galatasaray to 89 points, putting them eight clear of Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and confirming their third consecutive league title.
