President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the newly installed head of the Roman Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, following the papal inauguration mass held on Sunday at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City.
After the ceremony, Pope Leo XIV greeted several world leaders in attendance. President Tinubu exchanged a handshake and had a brief conversation with the new pontiff before moving along.
Also present were other global dignitaries, including U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who similarly greeted the Pope.
Tinubu was among the many world leaders who attended the inauguration mass, which marked the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s papacy. In his homily, the Pope emphasized the need to end the exploitation of nature and the marginalization of the poor. He called on the Church to serve as a transformative force in an increasingly divided and hate-filled world.
