A lot of Nigerians didn’t grasp the severity of the coronavirus threat when the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards was hosted in Lagos, Nigeria in March 2020.
As at that time, there were only two cases in Nigeria. It was an unnamed Italian man. While face masks was not yet in vogue, Nigeria’s leading fashion stylist, Tiannah Toyin Lawani was quick to react to the disease which was spreading like wild fire across the world.
She sewed glitter, rhinestone-studded face masks and styled Omashola Kolah Oburoh and Ifu Ennada two ex-housemates of Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

She knew that warnings from celebrities could help. In the United States for instance, The U.S. surgeon general urged Kylie Jenner, to inform her 167 million Instagram followers about the importance of social distancing and using a face mask.

The fashion stylist to some of Nigeria’s biggest stars who did not only style celebrities, she donated stylish mask for free to thousands of Nigerians as charity.
Today, there are 86, 576 cases in Nigeria with 1,278 deaths. Surely, she played in big role in this country to curb the spread of covid-19 by creating awareness when a lot of people didn’t take it seriously.
